This Executive Program is offered jointly by WIPO and the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) International Pte. Ltd on the theme: IP Unleashed! Navigating the Innovative Economy in the age of AI.

This program is designed to empower today’s leaders and innovators with the insights needed to navigate the intricacies of intellectual property and artificial intelligence in a business context and learn about the tools, techniques and practical IP strategies specifically tailored for the AI-driven economy.

One week in-person intensive training in Singapore from March 17 to 21, 2024.

Award of certificate

A certificate will be granted to participants who have completed all phases of the program curriculum. To receive a certificate of participation, participants will be expected to be present for no less than 80% of these live sessions and take part in discussions and projects.

Please note that this is a self-financed course. Participants are expected to bear their own travel and accommodation-related costs.

WIPO provides a limited number of scholarships in respect of the registration course fee for international participants. This does not include travel, accommodation and other expenses.

Introduction
This advanced training course is offered jointly by WIPO, the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) and the International Intellectual Property Training Institute (IIPTI).
 
Course objectives
The course is designed to enhance the practical skills and competence of patent examiners working in major technological fields, including biotechnology and pharmaceuticals, machinery, materials, electricity and electronics, telecommunications and business of data (BoD). At the end of the course, participants will be able to make use of publicly available online tools to search and examine inventions and to judge patentability in the major technological fields.


Online training course from April 14 to 18, 2025
The program will include the following themes:

• Overview of patent system
• Patentable and non-patentable subject matter
• Claims analysis
• Assessments of novelty, inventive step and industrial applications
• Unity of the invention
• Developing search strategies
• Patent analytics
• Patents and artificial intelligence.
• Utilization of search and examination results of other offices
• Writing patent search and examination report
• Case studies and practical exercises

 
Upon completing the online course with 80% or above of attendance, the certificate will be awarded.

Who should enroll
Patent examiners, trial examiners, administrative judges in patents, and professionals related to brand strategy and policy in the private sector.

Introduction

This course is offered by the WIPO Academy and Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Intellectual Property Management (RGNIIPM, India) for patent examiners working in various fields of technology.

Course objectives

The course is offered to enhance the technical skills and knowledge of patent examiners in using online patent search engines and to equip examiners with new examination techniques to better assess patent applications and improve quality.

At the end of the course, participants will be able to search and examine inventions in various technological fields using publicly available online tools, and to assess novelty and inventive step concerning inventions in those fields.

Curriculum highlights

The curriculum comprises the following phases.

Advanced Course on Patents DL-301 (4 weeks, online)
Selected participants must complete the Advanced Distance Learning Course on Patents (DL-301) prior to their participation in the face-to-face training or online course. Participants who have completed the DL-301 within three years prior to their selection will be exempted from re-taking the course again. The DL-301 will take place for a period of four weeks from the notification of selection. An assessment and exam will take place at the end of the DL-301.

Two weeks in-person training, in India, from May 5 to 16, 2025
Face-to-face training will be organized for two weeks, unless otherwise specified. The main part of the program will include the on-job training on search and examination.

The program will also include inter alia the following themes:

• Patentable and non-patentable subject matter, including exercises
• Claims analysis, including exercises
• Patent analytics
• The Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) system
• International search report and written opinion
• Writing patent search and examination report
• Assessments of novelty, inventive step and industrial application, unity of the invention
• Developing search strategies
• Access to public and private databases
• Patents in Artificial Intelligence

Award of certificate
A WIPO Academy certificate will be granted to participants who fulfill and meet all requirements set out in this course curriculum. Certificates will only be awarded to the participants who have completed all other phases of the course curriculum.

Introduction

This Executive Program is offered jointly by WIPO and the Center for International Intellectual Property Studies (CEIPI), with assistance from the French National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI-France), for the benefit of developing countries and countries with economies in transition.

Course objectives

The course is designed to enhance the skills and knowledge of technology managers and professionals with a STEM background working in research and development (R&D) institutions national IP offices, and other publicly funded national institutions involved in knowledge and technology transfer. The course is open to officials from these intuitions, notably from developing countries and countries with economies in transition. The course aims to equip participants with skills in intellectual property (IP) management, commercialization and licensing.
At the end of the Executive Program, participants will be able to apply different knowledge and technology transfer mechanisms and marketing tools/techniques, as well as effectively negotiate IP licensing agreements.

Curriculum highlights

The curriculum comprises the following phases:

Advanced IP eLearning Course on IP Management (four weeks, online)

Selected participants must complete the Advanced Course on IP Management (DL-450) prior to their participation in the in-person training. Only participants who have completed DL-450 within three years prior to their selection will be exempted from re-taking the course. The special session of the DL-450 will take place for a period of four weeks from the notification of selection. An assessment and exam will take place at the end of the special session of the DL-450 course.

One week in-person intensive training in Strasbourg, France, from June 23 to 27, 2025

The program will include the following themes:

• The bridge between public research and private initiative
• Open innovation and IP: A practical perspective
• IP audits and due diligence
• IP marketing strategies
• How to set up a technology transfer office

An assessment and short exam will take place at the end of the intensive training.

Award of certificate

A certificate will be granted to participants who have completed all phases of the program curriculum upon completion of assessment and short exam.

Introduction

This training course is offered by WIPO in cooperation with the British Copyright Council and the Intellectual Property Office (IPO) of United Kingdom. Who should enroll Senior officials from national copyright authorities and public funded entities in the field of copyright in developing countries, least developed countries and countries with economies in transition.

Course objectives

The course is designed to build the knowledge of participants on contemporary and emerging copyright issues from a technology and policy perspective. At the end of the course, participants will have a deeper understanding of current developments in the field of copyright and related rights and the strategies to develop appropriate responses for the practical operation of copyright in the digital environment for the creative industries.

Curriculum highlights

The curriculum comprises the following phases:

Special session of the Advanced Course on Copyright and Related Rights (4 weeks, online)

Selected participants must complete the Advanced Course on Copyright and Related Rights (DL-201) prior to their participation in phase 2. Only participants who have completed DL-201 within three years prior to their selection will be exempted from re-taking the DL-201 again. The special session of the DL-201 will take place for a period of four weeks from the notification of selection. An assessment and exam will take place at the end of this special session.

One week in-person intensive training in London, United Kingdom, from September 1 to 5, 2025

This in-person training will be organized over a one-week period, unless otherwise specified.

The program will include the following topics:

• Recent legislative and policy developments in the field of copyright and related rights.
• Copyright law and policy in the digital environment.
• Disruptive technologies and their impact in the copyright and related rights ecosystem.
• Limitations and exceptions: Balance between copyright protection and fostering creativity.
• Practical strategies for creators to protect their works.
• Regional efforts, strategies and compliance of copyright and related rights.
• Global digital trends and tackling solutions.
• Copyright and related rights management.
• Role of copyright offices in the creative economy: New visions and opportunities.
• Implications of machine learning and generative AI.
• Copyright enforcement measures.
• Copyright for publishers, artists, performers.

Participants will be requested to submit and present a country report in a relevant topic.

Award of certificate

A certificate will be granted to participants who have completed all phases of the program curriculum.

Introduction
This executive program is offered by WIPO and the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) for senior-level officials working in Intellectual Property (IP) Offices.

Who should enroll
Heads of IP Offices and senior officials working on intellectual property (IP) policy and administration issues from relevant government ministries or departments and IP offices.

Course objectives
The executive program is offered to enhance the managerial skills of senior IP officials responsible for the management of IP Offices for better delivery of IP services.

At the end of the program, officials will develop a deeper understanding of current and future challenges associated with managing IP offices and will be in a position to implement new techniques enabling the smooth running of an IP office, such as how to reduce backlogs, how to deliver qualitative services to stakeholders and how to introduce new services.

Curriculum highlights
The curriculum comprises the following phases:

Executive Training (one week, in person Gatineau, Québec, Canada) – October 20 to 24, 2025

The main part of the program will encompass professional training and project related discussions. The program will cover, inter alia, the following themes:

• Supporting the Canadian IP Ecosystem
• Modernization of IPOs
• Modernization of information technologies (IT) at CIPO
• Economic research and data analytics at CIPO, patent analytics, data visualization, reports
• Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility at CIPO
• Finance, budget origin and forecasting
• Strategic Planning and Performance Measurements
• Operational management
• Quality management
• Examiner training program

Identification, research and guidance on projects (up to 20 weeks)

Participants will be requested to identify projects for research on IP office management. Such projects must be endorsed by the participants’ respective institutions. Each participant will be prepared to conduct research on a selected theme of the project under the guidance of an assigned advisor from CIPO. The timeframe for submitting the project report and its implementation plan by each participant will last up to 20 weeks after the workshop.

Award of certificate

A certificate will be granted to participants who have completed all phases of the program curriculum.
