Senior officials and experts from IP offices or relevant government ministries or departments working on the protection and promotion of national products whose quality is linked to origin.

Course objectives
This Executive Program aims to enhance the knowledge and skills of officials managing national products whose quality is linked to origin. The program focuses on building capacity to use Geographical Indications (GIs) as a tool for sustainable growth and development. Participants will learn about the latest developments and best practices in GIs, with a strong emphasis on practical applications.
By the end of the program, participants will be equipped to design effective policies related to GIs. They will also be able to implement new techniques and strategies to promote national products, ensuring their quality and origin are highlighted and protected.
Curriculum highlights
The curriculum comprises the following phases:
Special session of the Advanced Course on Trademarks, Industrial Designs and Geographical Indications (4 weeks, online)
Selected participants must complete the Advanced Course on Trademarks, Industrial Designs and Geographical Indications (DL-302) prior to their participation in the Executive Training. Only participants who have completed DL-302 within three years prior to their selection will be exempted from re-taking the course again. The special session of the DL-302 will take place for a period of four weeks after the notification of selection. An assessment and exam will take place at the end of this special session.
Executive Training (one week, in person) in Georgia, dates to be confirmed
The program will cover several key themes, including both theoretical and practical aspects, through in-depth lectures, expert-led discussions, and engaging case studies. Participants will also benefit from a most relevant on-site study visit, providing real-world insights into GIs. The key themes to be addressed include:
- Understanding geographical indications (GIs)
- Legal protection of GIs: National and international frameworks and case studies
- The Lisbon System: Appellations of origin (AOs) and geographical indications (GIs)
- GI Specifications, control mechanisms, Enforcement, and infringement for GIs
- Collective Management, Branding, and Commercialization of Registered GIs
- Socio-cultural, environmental, and economic impacts of GIs
- Case studies: Successful examples of GIs
- Trademarks vs GIs: Challenges and solutions
- Advancing GIs: Innovations and emerging trends
Participants will be requested to submit and present their country reports.
Award of certificate
A certificate will be granted to participants who have completed all phases of the program curriculum.
