WIPO Academy - [WSS] Summer School on Intellectual Property and Executive Programs

Curriculum

The Summer School program provides an opportunity to graduate students and young professionals working in the private and public sectors to acquire deeper knowledge of each domain of intellectual property (IP) and to develop IP skills in these areas, how IP can be used as a tool for sustainable, socio-cultural, and economic development of emerging economies, as well as, exposing and informing them about the role of WIPO in the administration and provision of global IP services.

The program consists of lectures, case studies, simulation exercises, and panel and group discussions on selected IP topics.

Conditions for the grant of the certificate of participation

A certificate of participation is awarded to participants who successfully complete the program requirements. To receive a certificate of participation, participants will be expected to be present to a minimum of 8 out of 10 sessions and shall also actively take part in discussions and group projects.

Format of the Summer School

The Summer School will be conducted in a hybrid format, consisting of five (5) days of online sessions and five (5) days of onsite, classroom-based sessions.

Participants are responsible for their own travel to and from Manila, Philippines, accommodation and living expenses during their participation in the program.

Eligibility

The Summer School is open to all students (undergraduate and graduate students) and young professionals from any field of study or discipline. The program is designed for candidates who wish to obtain deeper knowledge of IP.

Online Registration

Applications must be submitted online with résumés, letters of motivation, and copies of passports (or identity cards).

Only 100 participants will be accommodated in the training program, on a first come-first served basis.

The deadline for the online application is on May 29, 2026.

Registration fees are payable to IPOPHL upon notification of acceptance from IPOPHL.  They fall into the following categories:

Local Participants and participants from developing countries:

Professionals:  PHP 20,500.00/USD 350

International Participants from developed countries:

Students:  PHP 23,500.00/USD 400

The Summer School program provides an opportunity to senior students and young professionals to acquire deeper knowledge of each domain of intellectual property (IP) and of the role and functions of WIPO.

Curriculum

The program comprises lectures, case studies, simulation exercises and group discussions covering a broad range of intellectual property and start-up-related topics. It places particular emphasis on the interdisciplinary nature of intellectual property and its interaction with other fields of study and areas of innovation.

The first week of the WIPO – Korea Summer School will be conducted exclusively online. The second week will be delivered in a hybrid format, with sessions taking place both online and in person. The in-person component will be hosted by the International Intellectual Property Training Institute (IIPTI) in Daejeon, Republic of Korea.

A certificate of participation is awarded to participants who successfully complete the program requirements.
 

Conditions for the grant of the certificate of participation

Upon successfully meeting the program requirements, participants will be awarded a certificate of participation.  This entails attending all sessions and actively participating in group projects and discussions, while keeping their cameras on throughout the Summer School. Prior to applying, applicants should carefully consider the level of commitment necessary for their involvement in the program.

The Summer School is available to senior students (graduate and postgraduate) and young professionals from any field of study or discipline. The program is tailored to individuals who already possess knowledge of IP.

All applicants are required to have successfully completed the WIPO distance learning General Course on Intellectual Property before the registration deadline. Please note that priority will be given to individuals who have completed this course in the selection process.

Online Registration

Applicants must submit their résumé, letter of motivation (outlining their reasons for applying and what they hope to achieve from the Summer School), and proof of nationality (passport or identity card copy).

Registration Fees 

The WIPO-Korea Summer School will be offered free of charge as registration fees have been waived. 

The WIPO-China Summer School on Intellectual Property, jointly organized by World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and Shenzhen University (SZU), will take place in Shenzhen, China, from August 10 to 21, 2026.

Curriculum

The WIPO–China (SZU) Summer School on Intellectual Property (“Summer School”) offers participants a valuable opportunity to deepen their knowledge across various domains of intellectual property (IP) and to gain insight into the role and functions of WIPO. The program is particularly suited to students, young professionals, and government officials with an interest in IP, including emerging and cutting-edge areas of the field. The curriculum comprises lectures, case studies, simulation exercises, and group discussions, providing both theoretical and practical perspectives. 

Format

The Summer School will be conducted in a hybrid format, allowing participants to attend either:

• Onsite at the SZU Lihu Campus in Shenzhen, China; or
• Online via Zoom.

While both options are available, onsite participation is strongly encouraged, as onsite participants will also benefit from field visits in Shenzhen, offering exposure to real-world applications of IP.

Please note that onsite participants are responsible for their own travel, accommodation, and living expenses. SZU will provide logistical support, including information on nearby accommodation (including budget-friendly options) and access to campus cafeterias at participants’ own expense.

Certificate of Participation

A certificate of participation will be awarded to participants who successfully complete the program requirements. To qualify, participants must attend at least 80% of the sessions and actively engage in discussions and group activities.

All applicants are required to have successfully completed the WIPO Academy eLearning General Course on Intellectual Property before the start of the program. Please note that priority will be given to individuals who have completed this course during the selection process.

Insurance and Medical Examination

Onsite participants are required to obtain medical insurance valid in China covering the full duration of their stay, in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Education of China. They will also be required to present a medical certificate upon arrival.

The Summer School will take place onsite at the Rural Revitalization Training Academy in Chengdu, Sichuan province, during the first week of the program and at the Chongqing University of Technology in Chongqing during the second week.

Please note that participants are responsible for their own travel, meals, and living expenses. The organizer will cover hotel room fees.

A certificate of participation will be awarded to participants who successfully complete the program requirements.  To qualify, participants must attend at least 80% of the sessions and actively engage in discussions and group activities.

Participants who successfully meet the program requirements, will be awarded a certificate of participation.  This requires participants to attend at least 90% of the sessions.  To ensure an interactive learning environment, it is hoped that online participants will keep their cameras on throughout the summer school and actively participate in discussions, etc.

Applicants are encouraged to carefully consider the time commitment and level of engagement before applying.

The registration fee for this Summer School has been fully waived, making this opportunity accessible to all selected participants.

Curriculum

The Summer School program provides an opportunity to senior students, young professionals and government officials to acquire deeper knowledge of each domain of intellectual property (IP) and of the role and functions of WIPO. 

The WIPO-CIPPM Summer School program will take place virtually only via Teams Meetings, hosted by the Centre for Intellectual Property, Policy and Management (CIPPM) Bournemouth University (BU), UK. 

The program consists of lectures, case studies, simulation exercises and group discussions on selected IP topics, with an orientation towards the interface between IP and other disciplines.

A certificate of participation is awarded to participants who successfully complete the program requirements.To receive a certificate of participation, participants will be expected to be present (present through a combination of video, audio, and group discussion) for no less than 80% of these live sessions and take part in discussions and projects. 

Before applying, applicants should consider the required commitment to 6-hour day (10 am to 4 pm British Standard Time (BST)) with a lunch break in-between. 

 A further hour (4 – 5 pm BST) will be available optionally to students from Tuesday 01 to Thursday 10 September, following the live sessions, should they wish to further discuss their topics with the relevant tutors in general or in preparing their Group Reports for presenting on the final day.

Eligibility

The Summer School is open to senior students (graduate and postgraduate students) and young professionals from any field of study or discipline. The program is designed for candidates who wish to obtain deeper knowledge of IP law. Applicants who are more senior in their field of IP law may find the WIPO-CIPPM Summer School less challenging but are still welcome to apply.

There are a limited number of spots, and applicants are encouraged to apply sooner rather than later. Once the program has reached capacity with fully registered applicants (accepted by WIPO and CIPPM and paid with BU), registration will close.

Registration fees (paid online via credit card only) are payable to Bournemouth University upon notification of acceptance from the Centre for Intellectual Property, Policy and Management. They fall into the following categories:

Students and Young Professionals who come from (that is, were born in and/or are a national of) developing countries or countries in transition:  

-Students:  £75                                                   

-Young professionals: £150 

Students and Young Professionals who come from (that is, were born in and/or are a national of) developed countries:

BU will not accept new registrants after August 27, 2026.

Accepted attendees may cancel on or before August 14, 2026, and receive a refund of the registration fee minus a cancellation fee of £50. The registration fee will not be refunded for cancellations after August 14, 2026.

Regarding Financial Assistance

We regret to advise that neither WIPO nor BU can offer any financial assistance to those seeking to participate in the program. Similarly, we are unable to identify any third parties that may be able to offer such assistance.

Modality, Date and Venue

This is an in-person program, to be held from August 31 to September 11, 2026 (Monday to Friday, 9:00–17:30), in Rijeka, Croatia, at the University of Rijeka Campus.

Eligibility

The Summer School is open to senior students (graduate and postgraduate students) and young professionals from all academic backgrounds and professional discipline. The program is intended for candidates seeking to deepen their knowledge and understanding of IP.

Participants are responsible for arranging and covering their own travel to and from Rijeka, Croatia, as well as their accommodation and living expenses for the duration of the program.

Conditions for the grant of the Certificate of participation

A certificate of participation is awarded to participants who successfully fulfil the program requirements.  To qualify, participants will be expected to attend all sessions and actively contribute to discussions and group projects.  Before applying, applicants should carefully consider the level of commitment required for full participation in the Summer School.

Registration Fees for Summer Schools on IP

Registration fees are payable to the State Intellectual Property Office of the Republic of Croatia upon notification of acceptance. The applicable fees are as follows:

Students and young professionals from developing countries and countries in transition, residing in those countries:

- Students: USD 200

- Young professionals: USD 300         

Students and young professionals from developed countries:

- Students: USD 400

- Young professionals: USD 500

Tuition fees must be paid no later than one month prior to the start date of the Summer School.  Failure to make payment by the specified deadline may result in the cancellation of admission, in which case the place may be offered to another applicant.

Cancellation Policy

If a participant cancels their enrolment or withdraws from the program prematurely, the following conditions shall apply:

-       Cancellation more than four weeks before the start of the Summer School:

50% of the full tuition fee will be payable

-       Cancellation within four weeks of the start of the Summer School, or withdrawal during the program:

No refund of tuition fees (including administrative fee) will be granted.

Programa: El curso OMPI-UNBOSQUE sobre Gestión de Propiedad Intelectual (GPI) y Transferencia de Tecnología en el Sector Salud ofrece una visión general del papel estratégico de la PI en la innovación en salud en América Latina. El programa aborda temas como patentes en los sectores farmacéutico y biotecnológico, estrategias de PI para tecnologías médicas, software y salud digital, así como la protección de la innovación en ciencias de la vida. También analiza la gestión de PI en empresas (incluidas startups), universidades, hospitales y centros de investigación, junto con procesos de transferencia de tecnología, licenciamiento y comercialización de innovaciones en salud. Las sesiones serán impartidas por expertos nacionales e internacionales e incluirán conferencias, estudios de caso, discusiones interactivas y visitas académicas a instituciones de innovación en salud.

Modalidad, fecha y lugar: Programa presencial del 19 al 30 de octubre de 2026 (lunes a viernes, de 9:00 a 16:00), en Bogotá, Colombia, en el Centro de Innovación (HUB iEX) de la Universidad El Bosque.

Elegibilidad: Profesionales e investigadores de América Latina interesados en PI, innovación y transferencia de tecnología en el sector salud. Los participantes son responsables de sus gastos de viaje a Bogotá, alojamiento y manutención durante el programa.

Certificado de participación: Los participantes que asistan a todas las sesiones y participen activamente en las discusiones y ejercicios recibirán un certificado emitido por la OMPI.

Seguro médico: Los participantes deberán presentar un certificado médico a su llegada. Aquellos que no residan en Colombia recibirán cobertura de seguro por parte de la OMPI durante su estadía relacionada con su participación en el programa.

Program: The WIPO–UNBOSQUE Course on Intellectual Property (IP) Management and Technology Transfer in the Health Sector provides an overview of the strategic role of IP in health innovation in Latin America. The program covers topics such as patents in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors, IP strategies for medical technologies, software, and digital health platforms, and the protection of innovation in the life sciences. It also examines IP management across different actors in the health sector, including companies (including startups), universities, hospitals, and research centers, as well as processes of technology transfer, licensing, and commercialization of health innovations. Sessions will be delivered by national and international experts and will include lectures, case studies, interactive discussions, and academic visits to health innovation institutions.

Modality, Date and Venue: In-person program from October 19 to 30, 2026 (Monday to Friday, 9:00–16:00), in Bogotá, Colombia, at the Innovation Center (HUB iEX) of Universidad El Bosque.

Eligibility: Professionals and researchers from Latin American countries interested in intellectual property, innovation, and technology transfer in the health sector. Participants are responsible for their own travel, accommodation, and living expenses during the program.

Certificate of Participation: Participants who attend all sessions and actively participate in discussions and exercises will receive a certificate issued by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

Medical Insurance: Participants must present a medical certificate upon arrival. Those who are not residents of Colombia will receive insurance coverage from WIPO during their stay related to the program.

Online Registration and Fees: Applications must be submitted online to WIPO and include a professional profile summary, letter of motivation, and copy of passport or national identification document. Payment will be made directly to Universidad El Bosque after acceptance notification from WIPO. The registration fee is COP 1,800,000 (approximately USD 450).

Cancellation Policy: Registration may only be cancelled for exceptional reasons no later than September 30, 2026. In such cases, participants will receive an 80% refund. After this date, no refunds will be granted.

All applicants will be given the opportunity to register for and complete the WIPO Academy IP eLearning Course on Intellectual Property Management (DL-450) as part of the application process, prior to selection for the program.

Format

 The Summer School will be conducted in a hybrid format, allowing participants to attend either onsite or online through Zoom or other designated virtual platforms.

While both options are available, onsite participation is strongly encouraged.  Please note that onsite participants are responsible for their own travel, accommodation and living expenses.

Online Registration

Applicants should submit their résumé together with a letter of motivation (setting out their reasons for applying and what they hope to gain from the Summer School).
Selected applicants will be notified two weeks after the registration deadline.

Partial Scholarships

A limited number of partial scholarships may be available for selected participants from African countries, subject to eligibility criteria and available funding, to support participation onsite.
