Curriculum

The Summer School program provides an opportunity to graduate students and young professionals working in the private and public sectors to acquire deeper knowledge of each domain of intellectual property (IP) and to develop IP skills in these areas, how IP can be used as a tool for sustainable, socio-cultural, and economic development of emerging economies, as well as, exposing and informing them about the role of WIPO in the administration and provision of global IP services.

The program consists of lectures, case studies, simulation exercises, and panel and group discussions on selected IP topics.

Conditions for the grant of the certificate of participation

A certificate of participation is awarded to participants who successfully complete the program requirements. To receive a certificate of participation, participants will be expected to be present to a minimum of 8 out of 10 sessions and shall also actively take part in discussions and group projects.

Format of the Summer School

The Summer School will be exclusively conducted in a full face-to-face format, held entirely in classroom settings.
Participants are responsible for their own travel to and from Manila, Philippines, accommodation and living expenses during their participation in the program.

Eligibility

The Summer School is open to senior students (graduate and postgraduate students) and young professionals from any field of study or discipline. The program is designed for candidates who wish to obtain deeper knowledge of IP.

Online Registration

Applications must be submitted online with résumés, letters of motivation, and copies of passports (or identity cards).
Only 80 participants will be accommodated in the training program, on a first come-first served basis.
 
Registration Fees

Registration fees are payable to IPOPHL upon notification of acceptance from IPOPHL.  They fall into the following categories:

Curriculum

The Summer School program provides an opportunity to senior students, young professionals and government officials to acquire deeper knowledge of each domain of intellectual property (IP) and of the role and functions of WIPO.

This onsite program consists of lectures, case studies, simulation exercises and group discussions on selected IP topics, with an orientation towards the interface between IP and other disciplines.
A certificate of participation is awarded to participants who successfully complete the program requirements. To receive a certificate of participation, participants will be expected to be present for no less than 80% of the sessions and take part in discussions and projects.

Before applying, applicants should consider the required commitment to 8-hour day (with two half hour coffee breaks and a lunch break in-between).
 
Eligibility

The Summer School is open to senior students (graduate and postgraduate students) and young professionals from any field of study or discipline. The program is designed for candidates who wish to obtain deeper knowledge of IP law. Applicants who are more senior in their field of IP law may find the program less challenging but are still welcome to apply.
There are a limited number of spots, and applicants are encouraged to apply sooner rather than later.

Registration Fees

Registration fees (paid online via credit card only) are payable to King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) upon notification of acceptance from the Center for Intellectual Property, Policy and Management. They fall into the following categories:

Students and Young Professionals who come from (that is, were born in and/or are a national of) developing countries or countries in transition:

Costs
 
Accommodation costs will be covered by the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP) and KAUST on a bed and breakfast basis in 5 star hotel on KAUST premises. Local transportation between Jeddah airport and the hotel, as well as between the hotel and the training venue, will also be provided by SAIP and KAUST.
 
Attendees are responsible for their transportation/flight cost to and from their home countries, registration fee, and meals outside of training hours. 
                
Available Scholarships

SAIP and KAUST Scholarships:
 
SAIP and KAUST are offering 10 Scholarships that cover all expenses, including flights, except for meals outside of training hours. These scholarships are awarded at the discretion of SAIP and KAUST.
 
Insurance and Medical Examination

Non-resident participants will be provided with insurance coverage for the duration of their stay in KAUST in connection with the Summer School program.

It is further expected from the participants to switch their cameras on for all the sessions of the Summer School (unless there are reasons that would prevent this). Before applying, applicants should consider the required commitment that is needed for their participation at the Summer School.

All applicants are required to have successfully completed the WIPO Distance Learning Course on Intellectual Property Management  (DL 450) before being selected for the program. Access to this online course will be made available upon registration to the Summer School.
 

Insurance and Medical Examination

Non-resident participants will be provided with insurance coverage for the duration of their stay in Durban in connection with the Summer School program.

Each participant will be required to present a medical certificate upon arrival.

Format

The Summer School programme will be implemented in hybrid format.

Due to the exceptional circumstances this year, all fees have been waived. Participation will be free of charge.
 
 

El Curso de Verano en Gestión de Propiedad Intelectual (GPI) de la OMPI se llevará a cabo del 25 de noviembre al 6 de diciembre de 2024, con la colaboración de la Universidad El Bosque, en las instalaciones de su Centro de Innovación (HUB iEX). Será la primera versión que se realizará en Colombia.
 
El Programa de cursos de verano de la OMPI está ideado para ofrecer a estudiantes de nivel universitario superior, profesionales y usuarios involucrados con asuntos de Propiedad Intelectual, la oportunidad de profundizar en cada ámbito de la propiedad intelectual y en el papel y las funciones de la OMPI.
 
Programa
 
La edición 2024 de nuestro Curso en Colombia se realizará en idioma español, el tema central será la “Gestión de Propiedad Intelectual (GPI)”. El Curso brindará la oportunidad para que estudiantes y profesionales involucrados con asuntos de Propiedad Intelectual (PI), que trabajen en el sector público o privado, adquieran con mayor profundidad conocimientos sobre los principales componentes de la PI y desarrollen capacidades en GPI relacionadas con temáticas como la identificación, mapeo, protección y gestión estratégica de activos de PI, Políticas Institucionales de PI, Debida Diligencia de PI, Auditorías de PI, Gestión estratégica aplicada a Patentes, Diseños, Marcas, Derecho de Autor y Secretos Empresariales, Infracciones de PI y medidas de observancia, Aspectos Internacionales de la PI, fundamentos y aspectos prácticos de la Transferencia Tecnológica y Monetización de Activos de PI.
 
El Curso consistirá en clases presenciales, estudio de casos, ejercicios de simulación y debates sobre el tema central. Las clases se impartirán a través de una metodología teórico-práctica por parte de expertos nacionales e internacionales con experiencia en sector público y privado en Gestión de Propiedad Intelectual.
 
Al término del programa se otorgará un certificado de participación, siempre que se cumplan con los lineamientos aprobatorios.
 
Condiciones para participar en el Curso

Este Curso de Verano está dirigido a estudiantes de grado académico de nivel superior (pregrado y/o posgrado) y profesionales, en cualquier campo de estudio o disciplina.

Para un mayor provecho del curso es recomendable, aunque no obligatorio, contar con el Curso general de enseñanza a distancia de la OMPI sobre propiedad intelectual (DL101).

Los participantes correrán con los gastos personales en que puedan incurrir para su participación en el programa (transporte, alojamiento y gastos de manutención).

 

Inscripción

Cada candidato deberá completar el formulario de registro disponible y adjuntar en formato electrónico su currículum vitae, carta de motivación y copia de su documento de identidad (o pasaporte). Los candidatos seleccionados serán notificados sobre su admisión, dentro de las dos semanas siguientes a la fecha de cierre de la convocatoria de inscripción en línea.

Cuotas de inscripción para el Curso de Verano OMPI en Colombia

Para la primera edición Colombia 2024, los participantes seleccionados deberán realizar directamente el pago a la Universidad El Bosque. Las categorías de pagos son las siguientes:

• Estudiantes de pregrado y postgrado activos: COP 1.000.000 (USD 270 aprox).
• Profesionales: COP 1.500.000 (USD 395 aprox).

Seguro Médico
 
Los participantes no residentes en Colombia, recibirán cobertura de seguro durante su estadía con relación a la participación en el Curso de Verano.
