WIPO-UNIDO-KIPO-KISTA Training Course in IP-driven, Inclusive and Sustainable Industrial Development

Eligibility

  • Applicants must have advanced proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Priority in selection will be given to experienced officials working in relevant policy areas from selected countries and at least middle manager level of officials currently serving in Ministries related to industry, economy, trade or SMEs, will be invited in coordination with WIPO, UNIDO and KIPO.

How to Register

Invited participants will be provided with an online registration link. All participants should register one week before the course starts.

Who Should Participate

Government officials from ministries of industry, trade, and economy, from related agencies and or from equivalent government organizations.

Invited Engagement of Participants by Phases of the Course

  • Participants are required to complete in advance the Distance Learning course Primer on Intellectual Property (DL-001), offered by the WIPO Academy
  • Participants are kindly asked to submit a short essay until the online training course ends, discussing industrial, economic and technological policy needs to solve problems that participating countries face by leveraging or using IP.
  • Following completing online course, participants will be kindly required to use IP learnings and prepare a policy paper (covering: e.g., policy context, identifying and analyzing problems and challenges, strategies, policy tools and measures to solve problems in terms of leveraging or using benefits of IP tools and policies, action plans for implementation, resources for the action plans, expected results, risk for implementing action plans, etc); and invited to present the policy paper in the on-site workshop to be organized during field study visit to Korea, which will take place in the 2nd half of the year, 2022 (That might be postponed to a later time, subject to the pandemic situation).

Course Description

This all-new "IP-driven, Inclusive and Sustainable Industrial Development" course is designed for government officials engaged in policies and programs related to industry, trade or SMEs. Through comprehensive training with cases studies, the course raises awareness of the importance and role of IP, and the integration and implementation of IP into public policy and programs. It provides milestone to build capacity for government officials working in the industrial and innovation sector, with the ultimate aim of facilitating the broader practical use of IP in the SME sector, as well as developing an IP ecosystem to underpin the national economy.

It is offered as an interactive online course in English. Participants who successfully complete the online course and subsequent problem-solving project may be invited on a field study visit to the Republic of Korea, currently envisaged in the second half of 2022 or later.

This course is jointly organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO), and the Korea Intellectual Property Strategy Agency (KISTA).

Learning Method and Tools

The course will consist of live online learning sessions. Training will be based on practical methods that enable participants to learn about the importance of IP and build their capacity to integrate and implement IP into policy and programs related to industrial development and innovation. Expert tutors will provide academic support throughout the course.

Duration

This course will be held from May 16 to 20, 2022 as an interactive online course, comprising of 5 days and 12 sessions.

* Kindly note that the online course will be followed by field study visit to relevant IP Authorities, Institutions and entities in public and private sector, and on-site workshop in the Republic of Korea in public and private sector for five working days.

Sample certificate

CERTIFICATE

An electronic certificate will be awarded to those who successfully complete all phases of the online live training course, field study visit program, and presentation of a problem-solving IP policy project.
