This Master of Laws (LL.M.) in intellectual Property and Business Law Program is offered jointly with the WIPO Academy, the Ministry of Justice of The Republic of Kazakstan, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Maqsut Narikbayev University (MNU) in Astana, Kazakhstan.
The
WIPO Academy–Maqsut Narikbayev University Master of Laws (LL.M.) in
Intellectual Property and Business Law is a postgraduate program that provides
graduates and professionals with in-depth expertise in IP rights and their
commercial applications. Offered in collaboration with the WIPO Academy, the
Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and the Ministry of Science
and Higher Education, the program integrates core legal instruction in
copyright, trademarks, patents, and industrial designs with specialized
training in IP asset management, licensing strategies, commercialization, and
enforcement mechanisms. With a focus on both international IP frameworks and
the Eurasian regional landscape, the curriculum develops legal research
capabilities alongside practical business law competencies. Led by
international and regional experts, the program equips graduates to address the
evolving challenges at the intersection of intellectual property, innovation,
and business strategy in the contemporary global economy.

Admission requirements
To be considered, applicants must:
- Possess an undergraduate degree or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution, in law or a related field;
- Demonstrate proficiency in English, assessed through a recognized English proficiency test (IELTS Academic – minimum score of 6.0 / Duolingo English Test – minimum score of 105/ TOEFL iBT – minimum score of 60);
- Successfully undergo enrollment process at MNU;
Maximum number of students
Limited to a total of 30 self-supported and financed students.

Languages
The Master program is offered in two languages: English and Russian.
Scholarships
Limited number of scholarships will be available from WIPO.
WIPO scholarships cover:
- Tuition fees; and
- Accommodation at MNU
Visa and ancillary costs, if any, shall be borne by the participants.
WIPO scholarships are awarded to international students, officials from developing countries or least developed countries (LDCs). Successful candidates are notified by the WIPO Academy.
Dates
September 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027;
- Distance Learning for international students: September 1, 2026 to December 25, 2026 (Distance Learning).
- Mixed Learning for national students: 21 September 2026 to 21 November 2026 (Distance Learning); 1 September 2026 to 24 October 2026 (In-class Learning).
- Residential Phase: January 18, 2027 to June 30, 2027
Award
Successful students will be awarded a Master of Laws’ Degree in Intellectual Property and Business Law by the Maqsut Narikbayev University on behalf of WIPO.
Teachers
Classes are delivered by eminent academics from MNU, visiting lecturers from other leading universities, highly reputed IP professionals and experts from WIPO and the other co-organizers.
