Member States recognize that creativity nurtured during childhood is likely to increase opportunities for innovation and entrepreneurship. Digital transformation and technological advances have influenced conventional approaches in education, and the future of innovators and entrepreneurs holds promise as young consumers of digital products are rapidly proving their capacity as creative and innovative producers. Their positive contribution to economic growth can be supported and enforced with IP education and knowledge.

The WIPO Academy has developed a service to help learn and teach creativity and inventiveness through intellectual property (IP) called IP4Youth&Teachers. The service kick-starts learners and teachers on their path to IP education by cultivating dialogue among youth, educators, curricula setters, and IP offices and by providing access to learning and teaching content. It is also a hub for sharing experiences, policy documents, business cases, and research on the benefits of early introduction to the role of IP in inventiveness and creativity.

WIPO Academy’s IP education resources provide wide-ranging services to enhance innovation and creative skills of school-aged children and youth (6 to 26 years), education professionals, and policymakers.

The resources have been translated, customized, and proposed for integration in national education curricula as core, optional or extra-curricular learning activity. They facilitate linkages between education professionals and relevant policymakers through carefully planned strategies backed up with a solid business case startup plan.

Children and youth from low-income countries may not have equal exposure to IP concepts as those living in more advanced economies. Expectations about what they can learn and achieve through formal school settings are likely as high as can be met. Stretching the IP creative capacity of the education sector is as important as investing in the IP education of the younger generation. Cultivating creativity, inventiveness, and entrepreneurial thinking by focusing on talents, finding solutions, and working in groups is one of many approaches that WIPO Academy’s IP4Youth and Teachers service promotes.

Our Services

The IP4Youth&Teachers service facilitates linkages between youth, education professionals and policy makers to learn about and teach IP as an integrated component of school-related activities. WIPO Member States capacities differ both in context and in scope. WIPO Academy’s framework for learning and teaching about IP therefore offers flexible methods that encourage networking and collaboration starting from school centers to national and regional contexts. Specific country-level experiences can be accessed by searching through the Sharing Experiences tab in this website.
